Attention Junior and Senior Parents: A graduate student at FIT, Ms Julee Ramnath has asked us for assistance gathering data for her thesis research. Her study involves assessing the impact of participation in High School athletics on academic performance, self esteem, and emotional well being of junior and senior students. She would like, with your permission, to ask your student to fill out some survey information. I have included the executive summary of her work for your information.  Please expect your student to bring home a permission form.  It must be signed in order for your student to participate.  I have looked at the materials and spoken with Ms. Ramnath and find this to be a worthwhile study with no risk to your student. We can be very helpful to her by giving her about 15 minutes of class time and we can benefit from her results.  Please look for the permission slip and encourage your student to participate.

One topic presented at this years annual Parent “Back to School” night highlighted the Brevard S.T.O.P.P.E.D. Program, a teen driver program you want to know about! Lori Chabot, Program Coordinator with the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office gave an overview of the program and invited all to register in this wonderful program.

S.T.O.P.P.E.D. is a voluntary parental notification program designed to reduce the number of youthful drivers involved in auto accidents. It provides young drivers with the constant awareness of watchful eyes and a visible reminder of parental supervision and gives parents “peace of mind” that they will be made aware if their teen is stopped.

To find out more about this program and how to register, click S.T.O.P.P.E.D. here for the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office website.
