National Honor Societies

French National Honor Society

Criteria for membership are: Completion of three semesters of high school French with a 3.0 weighted average in French and a 3.0 overall unweighted GPA. Prospective inductees must write a short essay in French or English about the advantages of learning French, what you plan to contribute to and gain from membership in this honor society and how you personally plan to use French in your future. A one-time fee is required which includes national and chapter membership, an FNHS polo shirt, and the FNHS honor chord to be worn at graduation.

Latin Honor Society

Students must have an "A" average in Latin II and be continuing into Latin III. Students must be recommended by their Latin teacher. The "A" grade must be in Latin only, no other grades will be considered. To maintain honor society status, members must complete 6 hours of tutoring in Latin class each semester.

Mu Alpha Theta

Mu Alpha Theta is the National Mathematics Honor Society for high school and community college students. Students participate in the math tutoring lab, community service projects, and demonstrate leadership throughout the MCC community. The criteria for membership is a 3.5 overall GPA and 3.7 GPA in mathematics courses, leadership, character, service, a love for math and a willingness to help others with math. Students must be at least a sophomore and be currently taking an Honors level Algebra II class or higher.

National Honor Society

The National Honor Society is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. NHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Service, Scholarship, Character and Leadership. Open to sophomores upon application (after first semester grades are issued) and upper class students who achieve the GPA after sophomore year. In additon, to become/remain a member, one must meet AND maintain the following requirements:

  • Each member must participate in all school and community service functions and complete a designated number of service hours distributed among parish, school and community.
  • Members must maintain a 3.70 cumulative GPA.
  • NHS members are expected to act as model students at all times adhering to all aspects of MCC's Code of Conduct.
  • Members must demonstrate leadership by attendance at meetings and by taking leadership roles in organizations.

Quill and Scroll International Honor Society for Journalists

Quill and Scroll chapters include in their membership students who have excelled in the editorial, literary and art departments of their school publications and/or who have done superior work in some phase of writing. Quill and Scroll desires to make membership an honor in recognition of their achievement. Requirements include publication in one of the above areas or willingness and commitment to seek publication. An overall GPA of at least 3.5 is required.

Science National Honor Society

The Science NHS is open to all junior and senior students who have completed or are currently enrolled in at least one AP science and have a minimum GPA of 3.5. The Science NHS is committed to enhancing student awareness and understanding of all sciences through guest speakers, competitions and service projects.

Spanish National Honor Society

Spanish Honor Society is a national honor society sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP). Criteria for eligibility: any student having studied Spanish III or higher; has maintained an unweighted average of 3.6 or above (in Spanish courses) and holds an overall GPA of 3.0.

Thespian National Honor Society

Thespian is an Honor Society for students who participate in theatre. Membership requirements include documented theatre experience, documented service as a member of the Playmakers Drama Club, and a minimum GPA of 3.0.
