Academic Clubs

Academic Team

A cross curricular competitive team game of questions and answers on all topics of human knowledge. The team competes against area high schools, through BCC, and against other Catholic Schools. Juniors or Seniors in good standing may sign up to participate.

Amigos Unidos

Amigos Unidos meets to give students more opportunities to experience the cultures of the Spanish-speaking world. The club will work with the International Union in planning a world festival. The club is open to any student who has taken a Spanish class.

Book Club

An academic club that is student oriented in choosing and discussing books of interest to the students at MCC.

Chemistry Club

The Chemistry Club performs chemical demonstrations for the Feeder School groups that tour MCC, and any other activities decided upon by the members.

Chess Team

Competitive organization who's purpose is to improve the critical thinking of the student body and develop into a team that will compete in chess competitions.

Engineering Club

The MCC engineering club takes on engineering challenges and participates in engineering related activities as determined by its members. Past endeavors include model rocketry, robotics and JETS competitions. Membership is open to all students with interest in engineering, regardless of math or science level.

Environmental Club

The objectives are:

  • Awareness: Helping student acquire an awareness and sensitivity to the total environment and its problems; developing the ability to perceive and discriminate among stimuli; process, refine and extend these perceptions; and use this new ability in a variety of contexts.
  • Knowledge: Helping students acquire a basic understanding of how the environment functions, how people interact with the environment, and how issues and problems dealing with the environment arise and how they can be resolved.
  • Attitudes: Helping student acquire a set of values and feelings of concern for the environment and the motivation and commitment to participate in environmental maintenance and improvement.
  • Skills: Helping students acquire the skills need to identify, investigate, and contribute to the resolution of environmental issues and problems.
  • Participation: Helping student acquire experience in using their acquired knowledge and skills in taking thoughtful, positive action toward the resolution of environmental issues and problems.

French Club

French Club is open to anyone who is interested in learning more about the French culture. Club fees are due each year. The club will participate in French parties, view French films and participate in many other activities outside of MCC. History Club

The History Club provides an opportunity for students interested in History to join together to extend the love of history to their fellow students and to the community. During the year the club will support the "Shoeboxes for Troops" Program. It will also plan a Flag burning ceremony, a field trip and help with special historical events throughout the year.

Latin Club

The Latin Club's purpose is to encourage an interest in and an appreciation of the language, literature and culture of ancient Greece and Rome and to impart an understanding of the debt of our own culture to that of Classical antiquity.

International Union

The main objectives of the International Union is to help bring international students together, to learn and understand different cultures, and languages. The students are able to relate to each other on variety of issues such as, homesickness, culture shock, and outsider's perspective. International Student Club plays an important role in adjusting international students to a new academic environment, and in internationalizing the campus, inviting the wider community to explore authentic cultural expressions.

Math Club

The Math Club provides an opportunity for students interested in Mathematics to join together to extend the enjoyment of math to their fellow students and to students in the feeder schools. During the year the club will plan activities on campus such as a tutoring service (to be held in conjunction with Mu Alpha Theta), a "math question of the month" that will be placed on the MCC web site and possibly allow one MCC student to participate in the state-wide competition at the end of the year, National Pi Day and the Math Olympiad. During the year we will plan and start a "Math Competition Team" that will grow to allow us to participate in town, county, state competitions.

Model UN

The Model United Nations Club engages in an authentic simulation of the United Nations system by learning about the UN system, the skills of debate, compromise, conflict resolution and negotiation. MUN team members have fun learning about the workings of world diplomacy through the lens of current events. MUN members attend conferences throughout the year as they experience increasing exposure to our world's international affairs.
